New Jersey Injury Law Firm History

The law firm of Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C. has its roots in the religious school of The Bergenfield-Dumont Jewish Center where Sam Davis, Garry R. Salomon and Marc Saperstein became childhood friends.

Although the three friends went their separate ways after high school, Marc Saperstein and Sam Davis joined forces in 1981 to form Davis & Saperstein. Six years later, Garry Salomon joined the firm as a partner to form Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C., originally located on River Street in Hackensack.

The new firm quickly gained a reputation for handling challenging personal injury cases and quickly out grew its Hackensack facilities. In 1995, the firm moved its headquarters to 375 Cedar Lane, Teaneck, New Jersey.

In 1996, the New Jersey personal injury law firm joined forces with 28 other plaintiff law firms around the United States to file class action lawsuits against the tobacco industry. These courageous lawyers were part of the Castano Group which was substantially responsible for the National Tobacco Settlement. In 1997, the firm took a lead position in Fen-Phen diet drug litigation in both New Jersey and New York, and represented individual plaintiffs and class action plaintiffs against the drug maker. Subsequently, the firm was appointed to lead positions in Propulsid, Baycol, and represented injured people in the Vioxx litigation.

The stature of the firm grew over the next decade as its partners assumed prominent positions within the legal community. In 2004, the firm added Steven Benvenisti and Paul Garfield as new partners.

In 2006, partner Marc C. Saperstein was chosen to head the Association of Trial Lawyers of America-NJ Chapter (now known as The New Jersey Association for Justice) as its President. During the same time and since he has continued to represent people seriously injured in all types of accidents in both New Jersey and New York. In 2009 he won a 20 million dollar jury verdict in New York in behalf of seriously injured construction worker. He has a particular interest in truck accident cases and representing people in cases against car manufacturers for defects causing explosions.

Seven of the firm’s lawyers are certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Civil Trial Attorneys. This distinction is held by less than 3% of all of New Jersey’s lawyers.

In 2011, Bennett Wasserman, a Hofstra University Special Law professor in the area of Legal Malpractice joined the firm to head its legal malpractice department. Wasserman, also a certified civil trial attorney as served as an expert witness in over 1,000 legal malpractice cases. Certified Trial Attorney Paul Garfield is a member of the local attorney ethics board

The firm as a vibrant and active Workers Compensation Department representing injured workers throughout New Jersey headed by Steven H. Cohen.

Partner Samuel L. Davis heads the Orthopedic Device Section of the American Association of Justice (AAJ) and has developed a practice area including defective hip, shoulder and knee implants. Many of these artificial joints have been cited as failing or causing long term problems for their patients. Davis, also a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, also concentrates his attention on burn cases, caused by defective products, fire or explosions.

Partner Garry R. Salomon, also a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, published in 2011 a book entitled “The Consumer’s Guide to New Jersey Personal Injury Claims.” He also serves as a Trustee of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce and in 2006 was given an award as Teaneck’s “Businessman of the Year.” In addition to representing the injured and trying cases, Salomon regularly teaches lawyers advocacy skill and legal ethics to lawyers attending NJAJ sponsored events.

Partner Steven Benvenisti, also a Certified Civil Trial Attorney is active in MADD New Jersey Chapter and MADD National. He is also a member of the Board of the New Jersey Brain Injury Association. In 2009 he was a speaker before the New Jersey Judicial College. As a young man, Steven almost lost his life due to a drunk driver. After 9 months in a hospital and over 20 surgeries he made a 100% recovery and went on to become a lawyer. In his spare time, he regularly is invited as a motivational speaker by high schools, colleges, medical and rehabilitation associations, and CourtTV.

Through the years, the firm has always demonstrated its gratitude and commitment to the local community by actively participating in charities and charitable events. Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C. is also proud to serve as the official advisors of the Teaneck High School Mock Trial Team. The firm also hosts the annual Teaneck Film Festival in its community room.
